    Bangkok Fabulous Days 3-5!

    So, on the 2nd morning in Bangkok (3rd day) we woke up for an early breakfast! I have no idea why the "western" breakfasts are much more expensive than the thai foods because its basically toast and fruit, sometimes egg but at like twice the price! Maybe people want "comfort foods" for breakfast so its in high demand? I have no idea, but we found a nice little place that had wonderful fresh fruits that came with my toast! I wish there were fresh fruits that sweet for me every morning! It makes me feel so healthy!

    This morning we had planned to go to the floating market and also decided to try and take the local transport! We walked all the way there and asked for directions and such. I remember it to be a rather humid day after the rain, boy were we dirty just from walking like after an hour!

    standing in the middle of Bangkok!
    some uber cute lampost with an elephant on it!

    Anyway, we were super proud of ourselves for being able to take the public bus! We were probably the happiest people there saying everyone else looked rather miserable....that or suspicious of us lol. We had to take it to a bus terminal and then from there take a 2 hour coach ride outside of Bangkok to get to the floating market!

    on the bus!
    tickets! they were so cheap!Safety while getting busy on the bus!
    all the miserable people on the bus!
    and then us!

    Soooo, something super stupid happened. I don't know if it's stupid or good luck, maybe both, but we found out while sitting on the coach bus, waiting to go that the floating market closes at 1pm and we'd never make it in time. All the way there, we asked people how to get there and no one told us it had closed even though they probably knew (which totally made sense of why everyone was sniggering when we asked). Thailand is the "land of smiles" definitely, but in Bangkok apparently they only smile when they take advantage of ur money or situation. =/ Disneyland is still the friendliest place on earth.

    being stupid on the coachbus interchange
    so we got off.....
    and got some tea!

    We took a cab back to Bangkok and decided to walk to the Throne hall from Khao San since we had tickets for it- that came with the entrance fee to the King's Palace the day before. It was a super long journey, but somewhat nice to walk. I always believe you can experience more of a country by walking! (But trust me, the way there is great because we keep seeing new things, the way back we definitely needed a cab)

    back in the city
    They apparently really x100 really love their king!

    Bangkok is definitely littered with scammers. This day, we were too smart for them. By the 3rd time someone told us it was "Buddha Day" and the place we wanted to go to was closed, we were professionally ignoring them. Seriously, how many Buddha days can there be?! Answer: One, which is Vesak day and depending on the lunar calendar of Thailand usually at the end of April or begining of May.

    professional tuk tuk ignorers
    the huge-ass uber dangerous road we crossed!

    Anyway, while walking towards our destination, we could see the Anantasamakom Throne Hall from about a mile away it was so big! The building was very impressive, british styled and a pointy green roof. It had the longest driveway I'd ever walked up! We weren't allowed to take any pictures from inside, but the gardens were super lush as you can imagine. The inside of the building was even more amazing! This building was heavily guarded and I could soon see why. On display in the massive throne hall, were many of the reigning family's items. From thrones to birthday gifts, everything was in gold and diamond studded. Some of the items had beetle wings pressed into them that were shimery and colorful. Apparently it had been a long tradtion to use those in their art.....very intersting indeed. The detailed craftmanship of these pieces were amazing. For each article, there was a plaque describing the item...some of them took many years and over 60 artisans to make! I'd never seen anything so captivating in my life! You can't even be jealous of these people who own this stuff....you just end up awed with your jaw hanging open. I would definitely reccomend everyone to go take a look at least once. It definintely outshined the Danish palace that I'd went to =x Of course as I looked at all these amazing silk tapastries, carved woods and pinted ceilings, I can't help but wonder how these people can have such luxurious items and grandure while many Thai people were starving or living in the street. Somethings in this world, I will never understand.

    so close but yet so far!
    monument of one of the kings I think
    tada!!! Wow it was grand!
    hahahahaha I almost died laughing when they made us buy these (40 bhat per piece) to cover our legs and arms out of respect. And to top it off they helped us tie it like super-thais too!
    I'm using mine as picnic blankets now LOL

    We missed the Vimanmek Mansion nearby which is included in the ticket because they close quite early at 4:30pm. It houses older royal artifacts from the 19th and 20th centuries.If I ever go back to Bangkok, I'll probably want to check it out.

    Next stop, down the street from the Throne Hall was Wat Benchamabophit (the Marble Temple). Built with Carrara marble frpm Italy, I thought it was one of the most pretty and most well maintained temples we'd seen. We entered the main hall with the big Buddha against a pretty blue wall, to hear monks chanting, seated on the floor. This temple had living quarters for the monks and I was surprised to see that it was rather colorful and charming.

    entrance
    marble in all of its shiny glory
    the inside with a mix of monks and tourists
    some people were actually rude enough to go in between the monks to take pics.
    Hellloo people, they're MONKS!! not unmovable, expressionless royal British guards!
    super prety against a blue walloutside garden infront of the pretty red bridge towards the monk's quarters
    Back at Khao San, I probably had the best Tom Yum soup ever! We then spent some time at the hotel's pool. It was super mini, but the view of the sunset was priceless.

    yum! I could eat it all over again!
    hellooo Bangkok!little pool with interesting people lol
    Before we took off to Pat Pong again, we had Thai (or pakistani, who knows) pancakes. I'd discovered them at Koh Samui with the girls last year and was thrilled to see that they sold them in Bangkok too! Yum! So crispy and sweet and warm all at the same time!

    I freaking fucking love the original with the sweetened condensed milk on it! *loves*

    We went to a new gay street after our unsucessful attempt to get into a club. Club DJ is apparently anti-backpacker as they had a strict dress and shoe code. Anyway, we have equally as good fun! We met the nicest waiter and Ravin got so drunk he lit the wrong end of his cigarette. LOL Good times!

    the streetthe beers!
    the happy ending massage boys!
    We saw the fattest, ugliest, grossest, most disgusting man go in!! talk about stereotypes, it was so funny all the boys were pushing eachother to him and trying to run away!
    LMFAO!

    Something scary also happened. We felt bad for our super sweet waiter as he didn't want to be working where he was working, but didnt have a choice, so we tipped him in hopes of at least helping him abit to get out faster-or at least the next meal. The male go-go bar touters across the street had seen and immediately grabbed my arm and tried to drag me into the club. "One minute free!" they shouted as I resisted! I was so freaked out I thought he was going to pull my arm off! Then a bigger guy grabs my arm and I'm ready to kick someone when Ravin pushes one and they let go. Talk about commotion! Jeebus, I'm never visibly tipping anyone in Thailand ever again!

    stupid gogo club

    The next morning (Day 4) we were determined to go to the floating market! I mean after all, everyone says its an experience of a lifetime and you get a glimpse of the Thai culture. We made our over 2 hour journey to the boats!

    back on the coach with some yummy waffle breakfast

    To our dismay, when we reached the shady boat area the bill was SGD$75 (1,500 Bhat) per person!!! We almost didn't want to go, but we didn't travel 2 hours on a crappy bus to not go! So we paid and hoped for the best. Our hopes slowly drained into the shit-smelling water. The boat took us at high speed in the semi-marrow water passage ways. When we got to the market built on the side of the river, the driver pulled the boat over to almost every boat and every stall there! The people held on and literally begged us to buy from them. And they quoted the most ridiculous prices! They even tried to push things I didn't like! Which just makes me more angry and more frustrated to a point where I still wouldn't buy if I'd liked it. This place is horribly overrated. I did get a fresh coconut though....which was equally disappointing, being not chilled and not sweet. Yuck. And at the end of the river market, they have a huge souvenior shop where you can buy anything you'd missed out on before!!

    river pathways
    I'm pretty sure the king would disapporve of their actions
    tada
    in all reality, there really isnt a reason to have the market floating at all. They should just build a couple bridges or something.
    selling food! I deemed it too unhygenic to try
    spices!
    my coconut!peoples houses, who look- but probably aren't poor because they rip you off so much

    Part of the journey was to stop us at 3 adjoining temples. We went to the middle one that turned out to be a temple ran by nuns. They were very kind and soft spoken people. I loved their unique windows that had grills in shape of buddhas. Ravin gave the Buddha some offerings but later complained that it had moss growing on it from the humidity. LOL

    the one we chose to go intolittle buddha greeting
    big buddha! with nuns playing with a little baby infront of it.
    Wonderful moments!
    cool window grills
    Ravin giving his offerings
    back to dry land. Yes, the water is as nasty as it looks.
    the polished frame they made for us (took the pic in the begining) for yet more money (100 bhat/ SGD4) that we bought for the memories.
    I guess they had to sell it cheap cuz if we didn't buy it, it'd just be wasted. but with the digital cam and computer picture printing and everything, I figure these people are smarter than we give them credit for.

    The trip back to Bangkok was a pretty long wait. They shipped us in a van that waited around for 2 hours for other people. During our wait we had lunch. It was probably the shadiest place local thai place I'd ever eaten at. There were flies everywhere and no one spoke a word of english. The coconutless tom yum soup gave me a tummy ache the entire 2 hour ride back to Bangkok.

    I should've known just by looking at it!
    I took a pic of our cab driver back to Khao San cuz ravin said he was good looking LOL

    So all in all worst day trip ever! It's a complete waste of time and a large ammount of money to be bullied into buying highly overpriced things (it was even more expensive than Khao San- the tourist backpacker area!). I did not appreciate our boat driver who was communicating with the market place sellers that we weren't buying anything. I'm pretty sure they had not so nice comments while we were there. Plus the river stunk. I wouldn't have minded paying that much if it was a great, once in a lifetime, memorable experience...but noooo......The total time on the boat was 45 minutes to an hour. The total time it took for us to get there and back to Bangkok was 5-6 hours!There was no culture and no bright colors you see in pictures of the floating market. Fuck that shit with two big ones.

    Our day did pick up to a happy/exciting one when Ravin got his first tattoo! We'd found this nice clean, comfy store in an ally connecting Khao San and the street behind it. The tattoo he got was so much cheaper than in Singapore where I got mine! And it was bigger! Though mine has shading and everything. Still, I think his tattoo artist was super professional. He came in, did a perfect job in quick time and left to man his larger store. His apprentice was very adorable showing us all the pieces he had on his body and later watching his "master". Once you start, you never stop wanting another one ;)

    super pretty wall tapestry in the shop!
    sticking on the ink!
    hahaha priceless
    the apprentice
    completed work!

    We had a "fancy" dinner that night as it was our last in Bangkok and did some hardcore shopping for the people we love after! No rain can stop me from shopping!!! We also had the last Thai Massage for awhile. *sigh* boy, do I miss those massages! We had tried a new place this night and I've decided the old ladies are the best and most experienced! Loved it!

    rain hat! from this nice designer's t-shirt store lol

    The next day (Day 5) we checked out at 12 and wiled away the time shopping, snacking, drinking and lunch. We'd booked a seat on a van to the airport from the place we'd gotten a massage at the night before. The people are so friendly there, I wish I'd remembered the name of the store!

    ready to go home!
    (actually checking if the lashes look ok cuz they wererather uncomfortable that morning lol)
    the rowdy pub next to our hotel
    the equally rowdy one across the st from that, which we prefered to hang out at!
    funny glasses we borrowed from a man trying to sell stuff on the street lol
    matching souveniors we got to remember the good times!!

    We got to the airport SUPER early, cuz the travel agent said Friday traffic can take us to the airport in 1 to 3 hours! So we took the safe time of 3 hour early pick up, and that day it only took us 1 hour -.- Then our plane was delayed another hour! But at 1am Singapore time when we landed, Henrik was still there happy to pick me up! *loves*

    Back at Bangkok international airport!
    airport snacks!!me ordering mango sticky rice! The lady professionally cut the ripest mango ever!
    end product (the rice has sweet coconut milk on it!)
    I can't believe I almost missed it! LOL YUM!
    Until next time Thailand!

    *~*Good times! *~*

    Side Notes: Oh if I had the choice, I wouldn't want to fl Jetstar airlines ever again. Besides the recent neative reports and well known flight delays, I feel that they're rather incompetent. Our flight was delayed an hour as well and no one told us while we frantically ran about the Thai airport. Maybe the airport is at fault here, but the food also sucks. Apparently they only have cup noodles and buns for 2 hour flights and not even enough if more than 10 people wanted to buy something of theirs that's outrageously overpriced.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *I love people at immigration and baggage checkpoints in airports all around the world! They never fail to tell me how pretty I am! I don't know why that is....maybe they're trained to do so, so I have good memories of their country! hehe, it works!
    *Pole dancing class started for me! I super love it! I now know why people do it as their profession!
    *It takes the same effort to hate someone as it takes to love someone. So spread love to the people around you who deserve it!
