Happy Chinese New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!

Hey loves! Yesterday (17th Feb) was officially the last day of Chinese New Year 2011! Welcome to the year of the rabbit! This Chinese New Year was the same as most years. The only big significance was that Henrik was here to join in the festivites this year!

We had reunion dinner with my Grandmother on my mom's side because shes the only grandparent left. This year due to family scandal, only Uncle David showed up (--,). The steamboat was wonderful! I think daddy got everything (and more) that was on my list of things to get. At least my family gets Chinese New Year right without my help if no other holiday eh?

    Huat Ah!!!
    dinner!

There was lots of eating and wishing and grandma and Uncle David even gave Henrik birthday presents! Super sweet! And after the guests had left my family started playing Risk! I actually really don't like that game as its based mostly on luck and dice rolling. I prefer games such as pictionary or scrabble- the ones which I usually win at (--,). Anyway, Henrik needed his revenge since losing the last time and after a well plyed game, he emerged victorious!

diet exceptions for exceptional days and exceptional foods (--,)
    Huat ahh!!

The first day of Chinese New Year (Feb 3rd) was also Henrik's birthday! Thus, I made a Danish layer cake (that his mom was nice enough to give me) with birthday breakfast! Nothing like bacon, eggs and birthday cake!

    Birthday Breakfast and presents!
    layer cake :D

Closer to the afternoon we went to grandma's house where the entire family had gathered. I seriously only see the cousins on this side of the family once a year. They seem to get bigger every year as well. LOL Grandma was super happy :D even the puppies from next door visited! I taught Henrik the ways of handing oranges and recieving red packets and he did everything with perfection! I'm proud!

By late afternoon we were at Aunty Nancy's house for lunch/dinner! Where the best teochew food is of course ;) There was braised pork knuckle and those eggs I like! (and intestines = o), ngo hiang, chicken curry, mutton curry, Buddha Jump Over the Wall, fresh springrolls, and meatballs! yummm! The night continued with gambling, card playing and we even taught Henrik how to play mahjong! *happies*

Having the birthday boy pick the lucky numbers!

Day 2 started at Aunty Eileen's house! Where the best Kueh Lapis is made of course ;) Lunch and semi-dinner was amazing as expected! More ngo hiang, japanese seaweed chicken (lol not traditional but yummy), chicken curry, otah, rice, mixed vegetable dish and the best braised beef ever! and I had about 6 slices of Kueh Lapis =x LOL More gambling till it was time to go!

    Huat Ah!

Dinner was ordered (*gasp*) at Uncle Edward's house. Mmm that efficient KFC! With drinking and more gambling, it made to be a perfect Chinese New Year!

    YUMHuat ah!

The following day was spent at Aunty Nancy's house again. This time just for gambling and Steamboat for lunch! Since CNY is all about family, gambling and food, that's pretty much about all we did! We had a super nice dinner from the stores downstairs as most businesses opened again! I really like "KL noodles"- Udon fried in some dark sauce. Yummmm! Aunty Helen bought this super nice Taiwanese bubble tea too!

    lunch!!super yummy bubble tea
    dinner!!
    Huat ah!!

Day 4 was a Sunday! We returned to the Westside and visited Yao's house for a steamboat dinner! It was one of the best ever! I really like the half grill, half soup concept. And I really liked the shrimp bites by CP! And Bacon with steamboat?? Yummm so good!!

    yao and jayce!
    honey and her steamboat cravings!

The night went on with Uno, Monopoly Deal and Kinect! Fun times!

The next weekend came and we went to Aunty Helen's house this time. Her "beehoon only" lunch came with absolutely no beehoon, but fried noodles, cheese tofu, century eggs, omelettes, ngo hiang and a whole roasted chicken! hehehe "Beehoon only" my butt in the Tan family!

    Lunch!
    Huat Ah!
Aunty Helen's new massage contraptions are amazing!! I super like the one I'm using the Upapa *brows*

Early persons gambled, and gambled and gambled, and I had really bad luck this year! :( Dinner was better though! There was popiah, kueh pie tee, mixed vegetables with sea asparagus, topshell and pacific clams and more sea cucumber >.<, kong bak pau, and abalone! Huat ar!!!!
    Lo Hei!

    Other Chinese Activites:

The pastry brought me to Chinatown for dinner and to see the lights one day!! We had my favorite Szechuan food for dinner! The China waitress was impressed with my mandarin! woo hoo! improvement! The lights were cute with little rabbits, tho it seems to become less grand by the year. The streets were the usual with all the snacks and goodies and the pastry had the best time sampling them all (--,) We bought quite a bit of those new year jellies too! hehehe

    year of the bunny!
    Super Yummy foods!
    hehe snack tasting (--,)

We also caught the river hong bao on its last day! It was really dismal this year! Last year was filled with so many colorful and creative exhibits and this year there was literally like 12 super boring ones. It was almost embarassing to bring Henrik there. The rides were te same ridiculous price as last year though. We hightailed it out of there rather quickly. I can't wait till the Dragon year though! It should be fawesome!!

same god of wealth as last year!
Should be a good year for the dragons!!

    *~* I hope everyone had as wonderful a CNY as I did!*~*
